Telnet In Windows 7 and Vista

Telnet is disabled after installation of Windows Vista or Windows 7. However you can easily enable this. Telnet is pulled out from command prompt and have its own Telnet prompt you have to enable.

Telnet In Windows 7 and Vista

  1. Go into Control Panel -> Programs and click “Turn Windows features on or off”
  2. Check the “Telnet Client” box and click OK. Now wait a couple of minutes for the installation to complete.
  3. Open “Telnet” either via searching for telnet in the Start Search box or in a command prompt typing in “Telnet”
  4. To connect to a remote server type “open <server name> <port#> in the telnet prompt

If you need the “Telnet Server” you can easily enabled this the same way. You probably notes it in Turn Windows features on or off when you enabled “Telnet Client”. If you want to disable it again just to follow step 1 and 2 and unchecking the “Telnet Client” instead.
