Downloading videos from YouTube has becoming more difficult over the years. There use to be several good extensions for Chrome on https://chrome.google.com/webstore which easily added a download drop-down below the YouTube clip. Due to safety and other things these extensions is considered malicious and cannot be approved on Chrome Extensions store.
“We’re constantly looking out for ways to make your browsing safer. To that end, we recently changed the way you add extensions that are not in the Chrome Web Store to your browser. Previously, any website could prompt you to add an extension into your browser. In the latest version of Google Chrome, you must explicitly tell Chrome that you want to install these extensions by adding them through the Extensions page.” Quote Google Support site.
The way to install an extension with this YouTube download feature you have to look beyond the store. “YouTube Options for Google Chrome” is at least one of them which is working if, and only if you download the full version and not the one on the store. The team also notes: “The only difference between the Google Chrome version and the “Full Version” for Chrome is the ability to download media.”.
Step for installing the full version:
- Download the full version from their website: https://spoi.com/software/yto/
- In Chrome select Tools > Extensions
- Locate the extension file on your computer and drag the file onto the Extensions page.
- Review the list of permissions in the dialog that appears. If you would like to proceed, Add and install.
